Culture and Crafts: Geographic isolation has resulted in the Bonda being able to preserve much of their distinctive culture. One of the most striking features of Bonda society is the traditional attire of the Bonda women. A narrow skirt or ringa covers their lower body, while heavy aluminum neckbands and bead necklaces reaching to their waist are used to cover the upper body. Their shaven scalps are decorated with bead and wild grass headbands.

Occupation: Forest dwellers who survive on shifting and wetland cultivation, the Bonda grow paddy along with black gram, maize, minor millets and oilseeds. They supplement this by the collection of forest produce, hunting and wage earning. The Bonda women are responsible for all commercial transactions at the market place, while the men are known for their fierce stance and readiness to defend their honor if they feel slighted or threatened. They are excellent hunters and marksmen.
